Hey guys, I’m David Mares (pronounced MAH-des). My homeboys in C-town call me D-Mar (ok, not really). I was raised in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, just outside of Denver, so technically that makes me a mountain boy. In elementary school, I tried to take piano lessons, but I never practiced and generally wasn’t interested. I just wanted to go outside and play basketball. Then, I started taking piano lessons where there were drum lessons in the room next door, and I could hear sick beats coming through the walls during my piano lessons and thought, “That sounds so much cooler than what I’m doing right now.” So I started taking drum lessons. And I fell in love with music. A few years later, I noticed a raffle for an electric guitar at the local music store and decided to enter the raffle. As I did so, I prayed, “God, if it’s your will for me to learn how to play the guitar, help me win this guitar.” I won the guitar. I started to lead worship for youth groups, and after I gave up high school basketball to focus on music, I was asked to help start youth Masses at two different churches. This is when I fell in love with worship music as a way to respond to our loving God. I kept leading worship when I went to the University of Arizona, I met my some of my best friends in the world, and we decided to start the band that became Emmaus.
