Kyle Wilson

What’s up I’m Kyle.  My homeboys in T-town call me K-Wil (no joke).  Grew up in Ahwatukee, AZ (a suburb of Phoenix).  Started taking piano lessons when I was six all the way up until I was 16.  Over the years I’d been asked to do special music and communion at my church and even led entire services once ina while, but piano was starting bore me.  So I picked up guitar and started a cover band in high school that eventually grew into an original-music secular band.  When I rolled up at the UofA, we needed some new members, so we picked up Ross and David from Emmaus on bass and drums.  After becoming good friends with these guys, they asked me, “Wanna do sound for Emmaus?”.  I was like, “Sure.”  Then they were all, “Wanna play keys for Emmaus?”, and I was like “Down.”  And then they were like “Dude, wanna sing?”, and I said, “Broduskis, yes.”  But the whole time I still thought, “yeah keys are okay, but guitar is where it’s at.”  Then I discovered Ben Folds, and I’ve been full throttle on the piano ever since, even making an effort to play more piano in the secular band.  I had never thoroughly enjoyed playing worship music (nor did I ever think I would write any) until I joined Emmaus, but thanks to these five people, I’m much more grounded in my faith and finally making music with a purpose.
